About Lung Cancer

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Estimates for lung cancer in the United States for 2011 predicted over 220,000 new cases and 157,000 deaths from the disease. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) represents more than 85% of lung cancer cases, with the majority being diagnosed in advanced stages. Approximately 17% of patients in the United States with NSCLC will survive five years after diagnosis, reflecting the limited potential of currently available therapies.
