Associate Director, Business Systems (G&A) IT

POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Director, Business Systems (G&A) IT will be responsible for the planning, management, implementation, and support of systems for Geron's G&A and other business functions. This position will serve as an IT liaison to various Business groups and will translate and validate their business requirements into solution requirements to meet the business needs. This role is a Hands-on Platform/Tech Lead across multiple initiatives, focusing on delivering current-state system improvements and future-state requirements, and evaluating/implementing technical solutions/systems contributing to the G&A Roadmap.  This position reports to the Senior Director, Information Technology and is based in our California headquarters, Foster City, CA.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

Key Competencies:

  • Develops a robust Strategic G&A Roadmap by closely partnering with functional leadership in Finance, HR and Legal
  • Provides strategic and tactical leadership, oversight to various business functions (Finance, Procurement and HR) for the delivery of key strategic and tactical projects
  • Develops a G&A Technology Roadmap based on the capabilities needed to support the launch activities (3PL integrations with GP, Datamart assessments, Aggregate spend, ADP, Concur enhancements), including planning for long term scalability, maturity of the platform and integrations
  • Develops the Hiring plan (Enterprise skills, roles) needed to support the implementation and operations of the G&A Roadmap
  • Develops, plans, and directs all aspects of the application infrastructure to enable and deliver on the business priorities for G&A
  • Plans and manages the Microsoft Dynamics GP upgrade with Vendors, including its hosting/migration in a private cloud
  • Plans, manages and implements a new Procure to Pay system
  • Oversees the design, configuration, implementation, and maintenance of relevant G&A systems
  • Provides secondary user administration, operational support for Dynamics GP, MR, FAS, and other Finance-related systems
  • Takes ownership as a System Owner and is responsible for periodic assessments/releases and post- implementation support for above systems
  • Drives Change Management by continuously improving the governance and delivery models through standardized process solutions, best practices and influences the business teams and implementation partners
  • Develops and manages internal documents/procedures (Requirements, Scope, SOX, documentation, technical support guides/ manuals)
  • Independently plans, prepares, and leads the Partner/SOX Audits
  • Provides support to Finance and Accounting Teams for Finance month end close process
  • Drives G&A Excellence and become the IT SME/trusted advisor by working closely with internal IT teams and cross-functional partners from Finance, Procurement, Legal and HR
  • Partners with Geron’s  IT PMO (IT Project Management Office) to develop G&A portfolio/dashboard

 

EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • 8-10 years of progressive experience in an Associate Director role with strong customer service background supporting relevant G&A systems (ERP, Dynamics GP, MR, FAS, P2P, ADP, Concur, CLMS)
  • A minimum of 7 years practical work experience in Life Sciences/Biopharma industry desired
  • Bachelors’ Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline preferred
  • Experience working in a small, dynamic, and growing organization
  • Prior experience in managing and leading teams (FTE, FTC, auditors, and implementation vendors) and fostering cooperation
  • Demonstrated learner and ability to assimilate complex information with critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrates strong business and technical knowledge, and understanding of various systems (ERP, P2P integrations, CLMS) and relevant platforms
  • Demonstrates broad understanding of the regulatory frameworks, practicing effective IT general controls (ITGC) as system custodian for G&A systems
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Able to manage and drive results from various cross functional teams and third-party vendors
  • Stays current with technological developments in various G&A domains
  • Comfortable debating technical concepts and ideas with peers/groups and discussing possible risks
