Vice President, Marketing


Reporting to the EVP, Corporate Strategy & Chief Commercial Officer, the Vice President, Marketing will play a critical leadership role in leading the commercial launch for Imetelstat. In this role, the VP, Marketing, will be responsible for building the US marketing launch team (HCPs, Patients, Advocacy), lead the US go-to-market cross-functional launch readiness team, direct cross-company omni-channel efforts and become a key member of the commercial leadership team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of customer engagement model to reflect latest evolution within the Oncology market, lead the development and execution of brand and tactical plans, communication of brand vision, strategy, and imperatives and provide clear focus and prioritization on all aspects of marketing strategy and marketing initiatives.

In this role, the candidate will have high visibility to the executive management committee and exposure to the Board of Directors.


Key Competencies:

  • Execute operational plan to deliver a successful launch of Imetelstat in the US market
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets and commercial inputs into Geron’s long-term strategic plan
  • Build on a collaborative environment that is conducive to development that supports individuals and teams to achieve full potential and maximize their contribution to the Geron mission
  • Strategic and executional responsibility to ensure commercial and non-commercial functions are aligned and delivering on key brand imperatives
  • Attract, manage, coach, develop and retain a talented Marketing team to effectively achieve the mission and stated objectives, ensuring a highly engaged and accountable team culture
  • Champion cross-functional collaboration across Clinical, Medical Affairs, Access, Sales, and Analytics, Commercial Operations, and field-based teams to develop integrated and holistic strategies and solutions for patients and providers
  • Work closely with medical leadership and the field-based Customer Engagement teams to build an effective and compliant collaboration covering KOL planning and engagement, publication planning, HEOR planning and medical education plans
  • Build and maintain strong thought leader relationships


The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in marketing/commercial functions in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, including significant product launch experience in a senior/executive level marketing leadership position with substantial, hands-on commercial experience in hematology/oncology
  • Recent major market development/pre-launch/launch experience US and key global markets in oncology or hematology
  • Bachelor’s Degree, required; advanced degree in business, marketing, or life sciences, preferred
  • Extensive experience with developing and executing marketing strategies and tactics, market research and analysis and business forecasting
  • Strong strategic agility with the ability to analyze complex business issues and opportunities, adapt to evolving market and competitive dynamics, and utilize sound judgment to establish appropriate objectives
  • Solid understanding of clinical trial design, drug development process, and promotional regulatory processes
  • US payor marketing experience, highly desired
  • Direct experience in working within complex global alliance/partnership environments
  • Willingness to roll-up sleeves and be hands-on
  • Strong interpersonal skills and superior cross-functional team player with demonstrated success in establishing working relationships within a diverse population
