Blood cancers encompass a wide range of diseases, each with distinct biological and clinical challenges. Today, our current primary focus is on lower-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (LR-MDS) and myelofibrosis (MF).
Lower-risk Myelodysplastic Syndromes (LR-MDS)
LR-MDS is a subset of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), a group of blood cancers characterized by ineffective blood cell production, often leading to anemia, fatigue, and transfusion dependence. Many people living with LR-MDS continue to need treatment options that address the underlying disease, reduce transfusion burden, and improve patient outcomes.
Myelofibrosis (MF)
MF is a blood cancer characterized by bone marrow scarring, symptom burden, and progressive disease. While existing therapies have advanced care, many patients continue to experience disease progression, underscoring the need for additional treatment options.

Telomerase inhibition: from scientific discovery to patient impact
Decades of research established telomerase as a fundamental driver of cellular aging and cancer biology, helping shape our understanding of how cancer cells maintain their ability to survive and divide uncontrollably. This body of work, including discoveries recognized with the Nobel Prize in 2009, provided the scientific rationale for targeting telomerase in cancer.

Persistence turned possibility into reality
While the potential of telomerase was widely recognized, translating that science into a viable therapy proved challenging. Geron remained committed to that pursuit, combining scientific conviction, persistence, and deep hematology expertise to help validate telomerase inhibition as a therapeutic approach and bring the first and only approved telomerase inhibitor to patients with LR-MDS.
